Necklaces
Although most people do not tend to think a a lot about
the history of necklaces when shopping for them, there still are some
interesting facts associated with the origin of the necklace.
The earliest necklaces were found in Africa. These necklaces are believed
to be nearly 75,000 years old. The necklaces worn then are much different
from the necklaces people wear today. The most primitive kinds of necklaces
featured claws, teeth, twine and feathers. However, today’s necklaces
are similar to primitive necklaces in that they both include precious
stones.
In earlier times, beads were popular adornments on necklaces. These
beads, however, served a couple of purposes. One of the reasons why
beads were worn is because they were ornamental and nice to look at.
However, they also had a practical purpose. The beads were used as currency
and people often bartered and traded with them.
However, as time continued, the way that necklaces are used changed.
At the height of Egyptian civilization, those in power wore the necklaces
to show their status. The highest in rank among them were buried while
still wearing their necklaces.
In some ways, the necklaces worn today are similar to the necklaces
that were worn so long ago. People still wear necklaces to draw attention
to themselves, and in some cases these necklaces are used for the purpose
to show the status of the person wearing them.
